Continuing on with the DotHack series, I’ve gone along a little ways, spent some quality time with a system administrator, and acquired the email addresses of two additional Blademasters, another Wavemaster, a new Long Arm, and yet another Twin Blade. For the uninitiated, this is how you gain additional party members: NPCs (other players in The World) give you their email addresses so you can contact them in-game and enlist their aid.
As reported elsewhere, the game mechanics have hardly changed at all from .Hack//Infection, but the plotline really is starting to come into its own. The ability of the Project Dothack folks to dole out information at such a conservative pace serves not to alienate the player, but to intrigue instead. Having watched .Hack//Sign, two episodes of .Hack//Liminality, and an episode of the silly superdeformed Legend of the Twilight Bracelet, I’m still not entirely sure what’s going on.
You may want to chalk that up to stupidity or thick-headedness on my part (I must admit I zoned out occassionally on Sign), though. With about 40 hours logged on this game (total, with Mutation unfinished) I unreservedly recommend purchasing this game.
where do i find more F cores?
There’s no real problem getting F cores: simply data drain any “large” monster that is combat level 30 or higher. Medium monsters yield E cores, small monsters yield D cores. Easy as you please, eh?

A letter you receive early on from Helba in Mutation explains how to get which virus cores. A, B, and C cores are obtained by killing creatures of combat level 30 or lower (e.g. those on the first two servers). D, E, and F cores are obtained by killing creatures of combat level 30-50 (i.e. those on lambda server). Specifically you can get these items by use of the Data Drain ability. In Infection and Mutation any other letter has to be obtained by other means (either given to you by another character, or drained from a special creature).
Oh, and as for the rare items, I’m not a big “collector” player. I like interacting with the characters and defeating plotline-related challenges. Most rare equipment can be obtained by trading with other characters in the root server towns or by data-draining various creatures. Try using Data Drain at least once on any particular type of critter you run into, you may get some neat stuff as a result.
As for Goil Menhirs, I generally don’t seek any kind of Menhir out, as I don’t like watching my enemies respawn as soon as I knock them down 🙂

I have no idea on how to get higher levels bc i keep getting the weak enamies but with them comming in massive forces. This pisses me off bc i only get like 10 – 24 exp. Can any one help me. I am a lvl 34 now and just started mutation last night at 2:00 a.m.

Read the message boards and your in-game email for a couple of new levels. I seem to recall that Gardenia gives you the keywords for a lvl35 playfield pretty darned early. That should keep you pretty occupied at lvl34. Of course, I was only lvl31 going into Mutation, so your mileage may vary.
Is there any particular strategy for winning the Grunty races?
I think that if you have a Wavemaster with you while you are playing. If anyone knows any other things that makes the game easier, please post them :-).
I must admit that I’ve never actually raised the requisite Grunties to even enter the races. I’m a bit of a “plot-pounder” when it comes to RPGs, and so far I haven’t needed to pursue any real powerleveling in order to advance through the storyline. It’s one of the things I’ve really liked about the .Hack game series so far (which reminds me, I still haven’t picked up the third installment).
I was lvl 36 when i got mutation. I went to lvl 47 and killed one monster to gain 1 lvl. I just lvl up to about 46 or so before i do any of the quests i get but you guys play how you want. What do you think of this method
To each his own. Personally I can’t stand running around senselessly killing critters just to get some numbers on my character’s stats to go up. Especially when the character I’m playing has motivation, like the .Hack series has been so good at providing thus far.

Well that certainly was an unexpected flood of activity for a rarely-visited website about the second of four video games (I would have thought everybody had beaten Mutation by now)!
Anyhow, the character upgrades aren’t intended to be used at this point. Kite’s character data is damaged in comparison with other characters in The World, so normal character upgrades can’t properly “take.” I presume that somewhere in the fourth volume Kite will lose the Twilight Bracelet, at which point it may be possible to take advantage of those upgrades.

Mel, any creatures in a playfield over level 30 is likely to be over level 30 itself. You simply need to use Data Drain on a medium sized critter above lvl30 to get an E core. By medium sized I mean anything bigger than Kite but not over, say, three times his height. I don’t recall the monster names off the top of my head.

mimiru, when u first start, tell ur party to use strengthening skills on magic if u have any. when u first attack the cubia core, it says physical tolerance. When u manage to deplete most of its hp, heal ur self if there is any depletion on any of ur party members because after wards, he’ll use a powerful attack. then on the next round, the cubia core will become magic tolerance. so use attack skills only! Then it’ll attack agen after u deplete his hp agen, heal agen, den he’ll use a powerful attack! when u destroy da cubia core, u’ll be on da same disk agen! use strengthening skills and heal nd den repaeat da following steps!

Experience rewards are a function of the difficulty of your opponent. You can get lots of xp per opponent, or have no chance of dying. Pick either one. Chance of death decreases dramatically through skillful play.

The game itself is not all the differcult, you just need to think and use a strategy. That’s why some people (like my brother) got tired of the game when they only got to level 10. I like it though.

To beat Magus, I was on level 51. My party was Elk, and Blackrose. To warn you: The final dungeon has 5 floors. It’s wise to bring a lot of Potions, Ressurects, and Mage Souls. Also, have a weapon that has Tiger Claws. It makes it easy to defeat the magus leaves.

To defeat the 10th round of goblin tag, use The Moon scroll and use the Merrows summon from the Fishskin blades. I beat him in 2 hits from merrows.

Um…the best thing i can tell you is to get your current level blades and drop them into the spring of mist. I recomend Grandpa, around level 50. If you put part C as “Aqua Field” you get a spring of mist almost everytime. I sorta forgot what i did to get high weaponds in mutation! ^.^

Did you check out the previous post? Take some of your moderately-powerful gear and feed them to the springs. Under certain conditions (which are too complicated for me to remember anymore), you will be given an improved piece of equipment in return. This is how a lot of the truly outstanding gear is acquired.

keys: WingelAngel gives a pretty good summary in a March 27 post here. Basically you’ll want to keep up with the “tolerance” switches. When it is tolerant to physical attacks, hit it with a lot of magic. When it is magic tolerant, hit it with a lot of physical skills. As always, keep your party thoroughly healed up during the entire process, because Cubia can hit you pretty hard with its special attack. No extra powerlevelling should be necessary to defeat this boss.

Define “most powerful” for me, Coldfire. I personally found that it wasn’t necessary to seek out weapons with strong attack values. I chose my weapons based upon the magic effects they made available. Trade with other players in the towns and see if they have gear that would give you and your party members the abilities you are lacking.
The most useful equipment, in my personal experience, is the gear that you can get through trading in town. Your results may vary. Make sure you talk to the townsfolk a couple of times so you can tell what they want in exchange for the really good stuff. If somebody in town tells you “I’ll give you a X for 13 Well Waters” or something along those lines, go to trade with him, and check out the stats on that particular item. It’ll most likely be pretty cool.
There are literally dozens of weapons for each character class in this game, so one is bound to be right for you.
Coldfire, I think that the weapons power depends on what element. If your fighting a water enemy, I think it’s smart to use a fire type weapon so you can get an “elemenal hit”
When it comes to getting high leveled weaponds, try trading with your Grunties. They tend to have good weaponds.
Kite, you need to level up in order to get higher MP. If you are level 30 or more, go to a place 40 or above. Keep using magic skills to gain levels very quickly and easily.
If you Data Drain monsters, you can either get Virus Cores or weapons/armor. Most high level monsters have very rare weapons and strong armor. Most of these monsters are above level 45; be careful when fighting them. If you do not receive the item, keep Data Draining that monster. However, do not Data Drain too much where you are in danger of system crashing.

You should be at a high level to easily defeat Cubia. Immediately stock up on magic scrolls , spells, and magic armors . You will be forced to take Mistral along for this, but this is a good thing. Your other character should be a powerhouse such as Blackrose, Gardenia, or Piros. When you reach the bottom of the dungeon, you will be attacked by Cubia. The actual boss here will be Cubia Core, which will spawn other variations of Cores such as Repth Core. This should be your first priority. The Repth Core holds 1,000 HP. This must be killed first or it will heal Cubia for 400 Hp at a time. After you kill it, ignore the others and order your companions to use magic on the Cubia Core (which holds 5,000 HP). After about 1000 damage it will launch a powerful attack. You should immediately heal yourself, then order your companions to attack the Repth Core again with physical attacks this time. Then once again, attack Cubia Core . You will need to repeat this multiple times. Remember to alternate between physical and magical attacks after he launches a powerful attack.

if you throw an item into the springs and it gets stronger does that mean ever time you throw an item into that specific spring it will get stronger or not
Kite, it depends on the power of the item you chuck in there, the time of day, and the weather, if I recall correctly. Always save your game before throwing any really good gear in. You’re likely to have to try a couple times.
Kite, the only way I know of getting money is though selling items.
In the final dungeon i got to the bottem of the 6th floor and got to net slum then phase 3 magus killed me is there any easy way to beat him or to get through the dungeon also is there a place to save the game when you get to net slum

Buy many Resurrects, Healing Drinks, Antidotes, Restoratives and Mage’s Souls. Have your party at least at level 30. Take a person with a lot of damage in your party, and equip the best equipment there is, as follows:

Weapon: Dante’s Blades or Hell’s Gate (Twin Blade), Fiend Spear (Long Arm)
Helmet: Fire Dance Hat
Armor: Firedrake Mail

Equipment for BlackRose, Blademaster, Heavy Blade, or Heavy Axe:

Helmet: Hunter’s Hood or Forester Helm

Armor: Lincoln Green (From Cima)

To defeat Skeith, distribute twenty Resurrects to each person in the party, then thirty Healing Drinks and twenty of Antidote and Restoratives. Do not distribute the Mage’s Souls. Use the entire group at first and use skills. If Kite dies, press Square for “First Aid” and afterwards, just keep hitting him without skills. Once you get enough for data hacking, use it on Skeith and you will see his second form. Because of this, just do a hit and heal combo so you will not get major damage from the shockwave hits. Keep repeating this combo so you will not die. And if you do die, keep using “First Aid” and keep slashing away.
Good Luck
For easy Experience go to “Delta, Closed Oblivious Twin Hills” to find weak enemies that give lots of experience points each. You should go there only if you are at level 20 and above but for difficult levels go to the Chaos Gate then enter one of the following new keywords:
“Closed Oblivios Twin Hills” for level 22
“Collapsed pagan march” for level 26
“Caressed silent melody” for level 26
“Quite gluttonous fiery sands” for level 24
“Lonely hot-blooded sunny demon” for level 27
“Lonely hot-blooded melody” for level 30
Oh my God! Skeith is the hardest boss in the whole game! In my party I had Blackrose and Gardenia and I had Kite as the healer. I know I was at leat of level 32. It took be two times to beat him, though. ^_^* I saved 3 times after beating Skeith just to make sure.
For Skeith you pretty much just gonna need to hit the hell/shit out of the bugger. Let
your other comrades do so, and you monitor, and act when its safe, one way to
do it. Until you can Data Drain him, hit, hit, hit. Don’t die, don’t die, don’t
die. SO set First Aid! as a priority for wavematers, or so. You do need to be
constantly on the defensive while fighting him. He can also Data Drain, don’t
be suprised, y’know Orca. Well it isn’t good. It takes both an Antidote and a
Restorative to recover from it, it’s that annoying!. If you happen to see him
go up into the air, run, run, run. Be prepared to take damage elsewise, or die.
So Ressurect anyone, someone’s definetly gonna die when he does it, and they
want to be in on the action, too. Just don’t let all 3 of you die! After you do
Data Drain him, DO as before. HIT! HIT! HIT! Let your wavemaster(s) kick ass.
He does get quite a bit easier.. sorta. HE CAN STILL DO EVIL STUFF. LIKE Data
Drain or Judgement, OWCHIE!! He also jumps and it might hurt your pretty, hard
earned party into ghostly-ness. Then…. after it’s all said and done… after
the dust has settled… You emerge as the ass-kicker supreme.. OR SO YOU THINK!?
OK! Watch the movie you’ve earned to view. Yes, watch the credits too. BUT
DON’T TURN THE GAME OFF!!! Save your game when “it” asks you!!!!!! Hehehe, hope that helps! ^-^

I have a goblin question that I have been searching to answer forever and can’t find anywhere. What happens if you sell, trade, or give away your goblin equipment from Infection? Is there any way to replace it? I think I gave my goblin cap to Black Rose before I knew how to trade and use equipment and I’d like to know if there is a way to get another one. If not, I guess the rest of the goblin equipment is useless, eh?

Oh, one more question, since I found this board. 🙂 The Grunties have me confounded. In the first game, each time I grew a Grunty, it was an Iron Grunty. The first one had some decent things to trade, but after I left it to go get stuff to trade with it, it was gone. Every other Iron Grunty I grow runs off before I trade with it saying there isn’t room for another Iron Grunty! When I summon my first Iron Grunty in the field, I can ride it, but never get an opportunity to trade with it. Like I said… confounded. I’m almost ready to give up on them altogether. What am I missing? I can beat Skeith on the first try but I can’t figure out the Grunties!! :-/

After you go to Net Slum, you can fight the last Boss. You have to kill the leaves that it drops. Hit it until it breaks and Data Drain it.

i just wanted to tell you guys that before you beat .hack//mutation you should continualy go to Delta Hidden Forbiden Holy ground after the story line continues a little bit, you get 4 memory fragments
(m:wavemaster, m:longarm, m:Heavy Axman and m:twin blade) they will be helpful if you want to complete the game 100% also they will be helpful in outbreak for powerup items

HEY i found this cool rare twinblade weapon from datadraining a sasquid. or that monster that is physical tol.
um has anyone beatin magus? I foaght against hem 3 times and i died each time. im pretty sure if i kill all the feathers, then magus wont beable to do that attak that kills you know matter what level or the amount of hp you have.
well, im sort of a rare hunter in the game. I have some good weapons. like the one i was talking about earlier. The is a realy good wand for wavemasters. The dark history is a good rare wand. and the great elite is the second great wand. i had two of each so i gave one to mistral and elk.

Hey if you have already beaten outbreak and got the rare weapon, Golden Yasha, from the bonus monster then could you tell me why I cant data drain it? oh its the monster, Dark Death. I keep useing Beasts bane cause its a magic tolerance and I heard you need to use magic to be able to data drain it but I always beat it and it never has the ok data drain sighn above it and Ive already tried 5 times.
I know I might be getting annoying but I know some secret areas. here check this out i only have two for now:

If you would like Chelcie, since you are a rare hunter, I can make a list of all my rares that I have in my bank (its almost completely full of rares), I can try and post where i got them too and what monsters will give you rare items =)
I checked up on Golden Yasha and i never got it, but i do know for sure that if you data drain the monster that it will give you the Golden Yasha no matter what, i checked the Ryu Book IV and looked at the monster data. Other then that i can’t help ya very much, dont know how to get to data drain it..sorry
I’m still playing .HACK//Infection and I’m almost to the end of the game. Problem though, I can’t get my hands on a C virus core. I know I need to find large monsters but I’m having a hard time finding them too. I’ve run into several “big” monsters but they only give me B Virus cores. Anybody know where I can find a big monster to data drain so I can beat the game and move on to Mutation?
Well I managed to find a C virus core! But now I’m on the final boss…dang! He’s hard, took out everything I had on him but Skeith was just refusing to die or guard break! Eventually he killed me, is there any kind of strategy to beat this thing?

Basically, I found it useful to hang back and player “healer” while my party members did all the real fighting. Keep your allies alive and they’ll win it for you. Trust your allies to keep you alive, and you’ll just die horribly.
That’s exactly what i did, just healed my party members and when nobody needed healing i threw in the occasional damage spell, just as long as you survive you can always heal your party members so make sure your priority is keeping you alive, and then your party members
What keywords do you use to find the Grunty Food?
It depends on what type of Grunty food you’re looking for.

You get it by data-draining a boss. All the virus cores that are later in the alphabet are acquired this way.
A quick search says it’s in “Lambda Nameless Seeker’s Prairie”
What addresses can I go to in order to find:

And here’s a tip:

If you’re looking for G, H, or I cores in Mutation, you’re right: they don’t exist. Try Outbreak.

Ok look, I know where to get the virus cores and all, but I can’t seem to get them!
My data drain has gone out of control more than twice now and I need a Virus Core E and three F’s to continue on, but I can’t get them!

My suggestion to kill cubia is when u get to him first kill the repth core or it will keep healing cubia core ones it dead attack cubia core depending on what u can use example] magic tolerent use melee or sword physical tolerent use magic or scrolls when u att him alot he will att u hard soon after heal then repeat the steps above

I don’t have a lot of input regarding the weapons (it has been a few years since I played this), but Magus was a pain. Set your primary melee-type (I took Black Rose) to attack Magus itself, and ONLY Magus. Set your other NPC to sit back and heal. You need to personally take the leaves out, the NPCs aren’t smart enough to handle them right. Keeping those leaves from having enough time to blow up is the key to that fight. Once you data drain him, it’s pretty straightforward.

well i think this is funny…. ppl asking where to find some shit…but if u did your own reaserch then you ALL WOULD KNOW that u can get Virus cores A-B-C all 3 servers so farin a lvl 30 and under place and u get D-E-F from any place in ^ server in a place lvl 30 and over….its all in helba’s Email to you if u bother reading your email as for the weapons thats easier just go to CHEATCC.COM or GAMEFAQS.COM and look for it dont ask players where to find them cause if they did the research then so can you….if you arent crippled(which if u play this game then i know u arent)then look up the fucking answers on your own…it really pisses people off when they have to tell you how to play the game ferther more “SOME” of you are smart and actually see that this message isnt to BADMOUTH or BELITTLE anyone its to tell people that its starting to get annoying just like any “GOOD” MMORPG game out there if u keep asking for advice on the game from other people or the admins of the game you get temp ban and if u continue to do it u get banned perminently so try and relax and just look for shit yourself

Hi, um I’m doing that Item Completion Event on Quarentine and I only have one item left to find, which is Dimension. I know u have to data drain a maga*umk/ro at Omega Reincarnated Elusive Lyric Poet, but I just can’t find the keyword Elusive in my B-word bank!!! Is there some requirement or special event that I have to do to get this word or is this just me??? T_T
