Sunabouzu

SunabouzuEver since Inky retired from translating I’ve found myself increasingly withdrawn from the world of fansubs for both anime and manga. I’m just not involved in it as a community thing anymore, what can I say? A notable exception to this withdrawal has been Sunabouzu, a quirky action/comedy about a post-apocalyptic bounty-hunter/repo-man/total-badass.

Alas, the group that has been kind enough to provide translations of it in English (thanks, Lunar!) has been rather slow to release, with only 8 translations released while 22 originals have aired thus far. The artwork is… odd, with the animators clearly being more interested in making sure that they are portraying various firearms properly than keeping the characters visually-appealing, but the humor is outstanding. Give it a shot!

the First Ep wAsn’t bad. lunaR’s subs blended into the background too Much so I had no idEa what they were saying.

Well, I try to avoid harping on fansubbers too much, as they’re providing me with a free service (I don’t understand spoken or written Japanese, French, German, Italian, or many other languages, so hey). That, and I have a kick-booty little 15″ flatscreen monitor on which I can read even the lousiest of subtitles. Mostly.

Yeah, you can sorta of tell you feel that way by the way you thank ’em and tell ’em they’re going slow at the same time 🙂
You have to tell someone if they have a piece of spinach in their teeth.

BTW, did they explain why the world was that way in Sunabo?

My guess is that the future post-apocalyptic Japan is that way because nobody picked up Genzou Hitogata Kiwa, and the folks that picked up School Rumble never really caught up with where the old translator was. 🙂

    No, they don’t say.

Well, I think that going into a translation group’s IRC channel and picking nits at them is in poor taste generally. I appreciate that they’re working on it (both Lunar regarding Sunabouzu and the joint that’s doing School Rumble), and whatever pace they want to go at is okie-dokie by me.

Oh, and I think that since I posted this article, Yanime/Akatsuki/whoever has officially caught up with the Mangainc version. Kudos to them. I still want somebody to pick up those other projects, though.
