Witch-hunting with a Poncho

Nadie shooting some fool

Nadie is a bounty hunter, and a good one. Ellis is a fugitive with crazy psychic powers. Upon tracking Ellis down, Nadie sympathizes with her plight, and helps protect her from the various other bounty hunters on her trail. El Cazador de la Bruja tells the story of how they meet up and the various challenges they encounter and overcome seeking out Ellis’s mysterious past.

Ellis and Nadie

The premise has potential, and the character design for Nadie looks like it a goodly amount of thought and effort went into trying to give her a personality. Unfortunately, Ellis sucks the life right out of this show. Above, we see her in her expressionless, listless, apathetic state. The audience is left wondering how it could be possible for anybody to invest any thought or care into this worthless husk of psychic mystery-girl.

Add in the plotting mastermind character we see in several cut scenes and the “Mysterious Espionage Chick has Adolescent Sidekick” cliché and we’re looking at a series that I’m highly unlikely to bother watching past episode two. Steer clear unless you’ve run out of wet paint to watch drying.

That’s about how I felt. It looked so promising back when I first started seeing folks’ Spring 2007 anime previews and went to the show’s website.
