Azumanga Daioh

Thursday, October 31st, 2002

Shockingly mundane? Disturbingly cute? Utterly lacking in sappy romance? Completely sans-villain? What’s the world coming to? Azumanga Daioh, that’s what. I’ve got almost all of the television episodes up to number 26, and a handful of the comic strips. Just a sampling of high school day-in-the-life comedy.

horizontal scroll

I have it on good authority that this month’s css layout produces an errant horizontal scroll effect in IE5.5 on the Mac. I understand that the kind folks at Zeldman.com had a similar problem and actually bothered to fix it. After a brief review of the myriad of compatibility issues they ran into getting cross-platform consistency, I’ve made the “fuck it: it validates” decision. Not a terribly difficult decision, as I don’t have a Mac to test the bugger with. If anybody cares to brew up a quick fix that leaves the display alone on less buggy clients (such as Mozilla or IE6 for Windows I’ll be happy to implement it.

GTA3:VC

Wednesday, October 30th, 2002

Alrighty, after an evening of play, I give Vice City a 4 star rating out of 5 possible. There’s some new mechanics, a couple of features that would have been nice in the original romp in Liberty City, and the soundtrack has improved.

But there’s nothing groundbreaking. New elements of play include… the ability to duck while not in a vehicle, and the ability to ditch out of your vehicle when it is still in motion are notable. Graphics aren’t much better than the previous version, but play remains top-notch.

If you only own two Playstation games, make sure one of them is a GTA3 product. Right now I’m leaning towards the Liberty City variety for its dark grittiness, but there’s an appealing bright, sunshiny unwholesomeness to Vice City that may yet win out.

That’s right, GTA3:VC is out, I farted around a little bit, stole a moped, got my tires shot out by a cop, beat up some chicks in bikinis… Life is good. More word later. I gotta get that Don Henley crap outta my head…
